There are many common sayings that compare looks to reality, like:
A picture is worth a thousand words.”
“Never judge a book by its cover.”
“Looks can be deceiving.”
“Pretty as a picture.”
In modern print and advertising, this topic is more applicable than ever.
As a familiar example, when you order an Arby’s Roast Beef Sandwich, which of the following photos is more representative of the contents of the wrapper — photo A or photo B?
Or how about the fanatical PhotoShopping of celebrities and models, both male and female? We are perpetually exposed to images of fit bodies and symmetrical faces that are unattainable by genetics or exercise. Photographs of even the most gorgeous, beautiful humans on earth are touched up in PhotoShop in post-production.
As we continue to launch new custom products every month this year, product photography has become a really important part of our customer experience. Sometimes the only impression of our product quality that customers can have is through the graphics on our website. And since we are an online business of 100% personalized products with thousands of individually manufactured products made and shipped every month – catching a breath – our photography project is no small task. But because of our high standards and dedication to top-notch service for each customer, we do all we can to show you images of your products every step of the way.
No matter whether the order is for patches, tumblers, caps, woven labels, challenge coins or custom shirts, The/Studio always strives to keep our customers up to date by providing our two product photos before delivering every order. The first is a mock-up, a digital representation of the product design as rendered by our expert graphic artists. The second is a sample photo, a photograph of the actual product sample fresh from the factory. We make absolutely sure that our customers are satisfied with their mockups and samples before we move on to the next step in the ordering process.
From the images of the sandwich and woman above, that many businesses use misleading photographs that enhance reality, only to disappoint when encountered in real life. At The/Studio, we stand by our products. After receiving the mockup image and sample photo, if you receive your physical product in the mail, and are not happy with how it looks. We promise to work with our customers to remanufacture products until we achieve customer satisfaction. We want all our customers to agree that, even in the deceptive age of photo enhancement, sometimes reality can still be better than a picture!
