The/Studio: What does your business do?
Tate: We make patches, t-shirts, hats, stickers, etc to celebrate the history of Cincinnati’s former NBA team – the Royals.
The/Studio: I have to admit that I have never heard of the Royals before. What have you learned since starting your business?
Tate: I’ve learned a ton about my hometown and about connecting with the history of my community.
The/Studio: What about your business are you most proud of?
Tate: I love when someone sees my products and shares their personal history with the team or it’s players. They share stories that they haven’t thought about in years.
The/Studio: What are some of the greatest challenges you face with your business?
Tate: So far, the biggest challenge is figuring out the best processes for meeting the demand for the products. We’ve been met with way more enthusiasm than I anticipated and we’ve had to grow quickly to adapt.
The/Studio: That’s a good problem to have! Where do you see your business in 10 years?
Tate: I hope that we are still creating quality, well-made products for people to connect with their hometown’s history.
The/Studio: What type of legacy do you want to leave?
Tate: We want to sell items that we believe in and we’re proud to make. We want to be an ethical business in the way we produce, source, design and market our products.
The/Studio: What is the story behind the custom product that you produced with The/Studio?
Tate: I’ve lived in Cincinnati for almost 20 years and I’ve been a basketball fan for longer than that. Last year I was watching a documentary about the NBA and I saw that “Cincinnati” was playing. I had no idea we ever had a team. I started learning more about the Royals and getting a sense of the pride that our community had about the team and it’s players. That made me want to create something that represented that pride. The first thing we made were patches with The/Studio and people loved them.
How are you going to use this custom product?
We have patches that we sell on their own – for people to put on backpacks, jackets, bags, shirts, etc. Then we made smaller patches that we use for our Ebbet’s Field ball caps. We couldn’t do what we do without The/Studio’s amazing work.
The/Studio: Thank you! That’s so nice! Do you have any promotions you would like to offer our community?
The/Studio: Do you have any upcoming events that our community members can attend?
Tate: People in Cincinnati can visit us at the City Flea on July 11, July 26, August 15, Sept 19 and Oct 10.
Thank you Tate for introducing us to the Cincinnati Royals!
