Jessie Jessup is one of the three talented Fashion Designers that we featured in our most recent community newsletter.
The/Studio: Introduce yourself. Tell our readers a little bit about who you are!
Jessie: My name is Jessie and I am a marine artist out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I started this when I was I painting, when I was a little girl and haven’t stopped since. I am now 20 years old having starting my business when I was age 18.
The/Studio: What does your business do?
Jessie: My business involves taking the creative artworks I draw and paint and I find creative ways to incorporate them into all kinds of sellable clothing products such as shirts, hats (where your patches get put to use), baby onesies, buffs etc. So I created a marine clothing brand based on my art.
The/Studio: What have you learned since starting your business?
Jessie: I have learned everything from what appeals to people to how the clothing industry works to advertising and retail.
The/Studio: What about your business are you most proud of?
Jessie: I am most proud of the fact that I started my business at age 18. A lot of people at my age now don’t have the ambition that I had when started this business at 18 years old.
The/Studio: What are some of the greatest challenges you face with your business?
Jessie: Some challenges I face are having enough money to keep a good stock of my inventory to ship things out on time. I have been taking everything I have made from my business and I have put it right back in to build up my inventory levels. Its not bad knowing that I started off with only $1,000 to start my business off with and now I have well over about $15,000 worth of inventory.
The/Studio: Where do you see your Jessie Jessup Apparel in 10 years?
Jessie: In 10 years I see my brand in hundreds of big retail stores and I see me having a personal retail store and art gallery for my brand alone. I can’t keep having people come shopping at my house! Ahah
The/Studio: What type of legacy do you want to leave?
Jessie: I want to leave a legacy of creativity! In my personal experience with my business, creativity is key!
The/Studio: What is the story behind the custom product that you produced with The/Studio?
Jessie: I ordered (3 inch by 3 inch) patches with my logo on them for branding my custom apparel.
The/Studio: How are you going to use the custom patches?
Jessie: The patches are for straw hats that have a fabric band of my art on them that get attached to the hat and then the patch goes on the front of the hat for branding purposes.
The/Studio: Do you have any promotions you would like to offer our community?
Jessie: If they would like to check out my website, www.jessiejessupapparel.com, I can offer them 10% off their order with the coupon code they can use at checkout: THANKS10
The/Studio: Do you have any upcoming events that our community members can attend?
Jessie: Show information can be found at the bottom of my website.
The/Studio: Is there anything our community members can do to help?
Jessie: I actually partnered my business with The Billfish Foundation. Every shirt I sell I donate to their organization to help parents and students learn more about the conservation of Billfish in the ocean. So all your members need to do to help is buy my apparel.
Thank you, Jessie, for sharing your story with us! We wish you continued success!
