Meet Our Customer of the Week, Berlhey Narcisse
I am very proud and honored to introduce to our community, Berlhey Narcisse, founder and CEO of Bèl Monique. Berlhey was inspired by her aunt, who taught her that true beauty lies within. And with this inspiration she created a fashion brand, Bèl Monique to pay homage to her beautiful aunt.
The/Studio: Introduce yourself. Tell our readers a little bit about who you are!
Berlhey: Hi! My names Berlhey Narcisse, I am founder and CEO of the brand Bèl Monique. Bèl means beautiful in Haitian Creole, and Monique is in memory of my aunt (Monique) who, before passing away from cancer, taught me my greatest lesson in beauty “…it is an aura one carries, that originates from within.” Bèl is an internal beauty and style brand that celebrates the beauty in women.
The/Studio: What does Bèl Monique do?
Berlhey: Bèl uses products and projects to give you an experience of personal growth, self-acknowledgement and personal fashion style; our brand serves as a reminder of your beauty. For instance our ‘I AM BÈL’ signature tank tops, that translates to “I am beautiful” is a statement apparel piece that signifies your beauty. And one of our most popular services, our I AM BÈL Photoshoot that selects every day women and indulges them in a professional photoshoot and interview experience, that gives them a platform to speak on their stories and perspectives on beauty, to share with other women – and we do all of this while incorporating fashion!
The/Studio: What an empowering concept! What have you learned since starting your fashion brand?
Berlhey: The importance of giving; you cannot receive until you give. As a business owner I want to make sure that I give often and things of great value to my clients. It’s hard to grasp that concept, some people often believe in this misconception that business is for the takers…no, a successful business lies in the hands of the givers. If you can give, and give more than what’s expected – your business is almost guaranteed to succeed.
The/Studio: What about Bèl Monique are you most proud of?
Berlhey: I am most proud of the attention my brand brings to every day women. Of course we love and celebrate all women but to have women celebrated and reminded that their voice, their beauty and their perspectives matter, is an amazing feeling!
The/Studio: What are some of the greatest challenges you face with your business?
Berlhey: My greatest challenge is keeping up with demand. When running your own business, your hands are literally in every aspect of it, which can be overwhelming. So, we definitely hope to hire interns and employees in the future.
The/Studio: Where do you see Bèl Monique in 10 years?
Berlhey: In 10 years I see my brand touching millions of women around the world. I see Bèl as being one of the leading brands in the knowledge of internal beauty and how to hone in on that and allow it to exude through personal style.
The/Studio: What type of legacy do you want to leave?
Berlhey: I want to leave behind a legacy of morals and integrity, not just a business that can be passed down. I’m working my butt off to make a difference using the gifts that were given to me. I have the ability to connect with people on a deeper level and the creativity to incorporate my love of fashion and beauty into that. I want my legacy to be of a deeper, internal strength found in women, and I wish women to constantly question, explore and share that – long after I’m gone.
The/Studio: That is quite a legacy! What is the story behind the custom product that you produced with The/Studio?
Berlhey: I made custom apparel tags for my ‘I AM BÈL’ Signature tanks through The/Studio, which came out AMAZING! My well intended business partner tried to convince me that I don’t have to have labels on my tanks. It was taking me over budget, but I refused! I was like, my girls (customers) need this to be a complete and well-packaged product, I just didn’t feel like I’d be giving them the best without it.
The/Studio: We are glad you didn’t listen to your business partner :-). Do you have any promotions you would like to offer our community?
