Yankees Wearing a Patch to Honor Derek Jeter September 6, 2014
Goodbye Derek Jeter
We have come to the end of an era. Derek Jeter is currently playing his final season with the New York Yankees. Although we knew the time would come when we would have to say goodbye to our favorite Yankee, no amount of preparation could prepare us for the inevitable. Soon Derek Jeter will just be a memory, not a faint memory but a vivid remembrance filled with excitement and great respect.
Derek Jeter Patches
The Yankees are sending Jeter off the only way a true legend deserves to depart their team, with patches. On Tuesday, September 3, 2014 it was announced that the Yankees would be wearing a Derek Jeter patch to accompany their uniforms and hats. The patches will be for the remainder of the season. They will also produce baseballs with the official Derek Jeter logo.
This is a true testament to the iconic baseball player Jeter truly is. Normally patches are worn as an memoriam to honor celebrities that have passed away but Jeter will still be playing while the patches are being worn. He will be able to observe his own glory. He is a baseball hero.
The Yankees are not the only ones capitalizing on the retirement of Derek Jeter. New Era is currently selling a Jeter cap box set. It features three hats representing Jeter. It retails for $150.00. Jeter was also asked to autograph more than 200 items. The most expensive item so far is an autographed jersey for $25,000 dollars.
Retirement for a athlete or a celebrity sounds a lot like the death of a icon. More money is made for all parties involved
One thing is for sure, Derek Jeter will always and forever be a New York Yankee.
