1. About the Client
Judy and Joel lead the Southern Pacific District branch of the Royal Rangers, a Christian ministry dedicated to mentoring boys and young men aged 5 to 18. Through a unique combination of outdoor adventure and spiritual guidance, the Royal Rangers help boys grow mentally, physically, and spiritually while forming lasting bonds with one another and deepening their relationship with God.
The Southern Pacific District, based in Southern California, regularly organizes large-scale events such as camporees—multi-day gatherings that include hiking, camping, and faith-based discussions. Judy and Joel’s mission is to shape the next generation of Christian leaders, offering them a space to grow, explore, and reflect. More than just youth ministry, the Royal Rangers cultivate character and a Christ-centered identity that boys carry with them into adulthood.


2. Client Needs
Each year, the Southern Pacific District hosts a major camporee, bringing together hundreds of boys and their leaders from across the region. These events are both formative and festive—filled with learning, camaraderie, and spiritual transformation. Judy and Joel needed custom merchandise to capture the energy and identity of each year’s theme—products that were not only functional during the event, but would also serve as lasting symbols of personal and spiritual growth.
Their top priority was the annual patch, which every boy receives at the end of the camporee as a mark of participation and brotherhood. These patches had to feel truly special: designed from scratch, tailored to the year’s theme, and infused with meaning. Additional custom items like lapel pins and lanyards also played a role in uniting participants and building excitement. Above all, the merchandise needed to reflect the values of the Royal Rangers—strength, faith, and community—while sparking joy and pride among the boys.

3. Our Solution
THE/STUDIO worked closely with Judy to bring each year’s vision to life through fully custom designs. At the center of every patch is JB Beaver, the Southern Pacific District’s beloved mascot, who takes on a new persona for each camporee. In past years, JB was a daring race car driver and even soared as an X-Wing pilot—each design reflecting creativity, relevance, and fun. In 2025, for the camporee themed “Forged,” THE/STUDIO transformed JB into a rugged cowboy riding a horse through a desert backdrop. The result was a bold and cinematic design that embodied the spirit of resilience and faith.
Our team handled every step—from concept to illustration, digitization, and production—ensuring every detail aligned with the theme. We provided early sketches and multiple rounds of feedback to guarantee Judy was fully satisfied before production began. The patches were meticulously embroidered, with rich textures and colors that made the artwork pop. We also produced matching lapel pins and lanyards, creating a cohesive set of memorabilia for the event.
4. Final Outcome
The “Forged” patch became an instant favorite among the boys, with many eagerly asking to see it even before the event began. By the final day of the camporee, the patch had taken on deeper meaning—it was a tangible reward for personal growth, spiritual reflection, and being part of something greater. With JB Beaver proudly sitting on his horse under the desert sun, the design captured both the grit of the wilderness and the strength that comes from walking with God.
Alongside the patches, the lapel pins and lanyards helped elevate the experience and offered practical use during the event. Whether clipped to gear or pinned to uniforms, they became tools of connection, identity, and remembrance. The cohesive branding made the entire camporee feel more immersive, and THE/STUDIO’s dependable execution ensured every item was delivered on time and to exact standards.



5. Results
Each year, the Southern Pacific Royal Rangers raise the bar for their events—and THE/STUDIO continues to be a trusted creative partner in making that vision a reality. The custom patches are now a tradition, with boys collecting them year after year as markers of their journey through the program. The “Forged” edition stands out not just for its visual impact, but for the message it carries: that strength is formed through trials, and faith is a foundation built over time.
Judy reports that the boys are always excited to see the next design, and many keep their patches well beyond their Ranger years. It’s a simple object that holds enormous meaning—a thread that ties together adventure, friendship, and spiritual growth.
