Deciding on the right embroidery coverage can be tricky. Here’s what you need to know!Let’s start this off with the basics. What is “embroidery coverage?” Basically, it’s the percentage patch surface that is embroidered. Pretty self-explanatory, right?
Naturally, embroidery coverage only applies to embroidered custom patches. If you’re making a woven, printed, PVC, leather, or another type of custom patch, there’s no need to worry about embroidery coverage. For embroidered patches, however, you’ll have to decide. There are three types of embroidery coverage you can choose from:
- 50% embroidery coverage
- 75% embroidery coverage
- 100% embroidery coverage
How Do I Know Which to Choose?
This is one of the questions we are asked all the time because embroidered patches are our most popular (and affordable) patch style. These patches start at a low rate of 200 patches from $0.61 each!
But back to the question of what embroidery coverage to choose…
It’s not always an easy answer, and the choice you make should really depend on your goals for the patch. Generally, pricing will go up with higher embroidery coverage, so keep that in mind! Let’s go through each option and give some advice : )
50% Embroidery Coverage
This means that 50% of your patch will be filled with embroidery. This option is best for text-only designs, where the text is embroidered and nothing else.
75% Embroidery Coverage
This means that 75% of your patch will be filled with embroidery. This is our most popular embroidery coverage option and is best for patches with simple designs and limited colors. 75% coverage offers contrasting texture, great for designs with only a few colors, making the embroidered portions really stick out against the non-embroidered backdrop.
100% Embroidery Coverage
This means that 100% of your patch will be filled with embroidery. We recommend this if your design has lots of different colors, or if it’s a more vivid, intricate design. We also recommend this if you need colors to be matched closely to your design template. 100% embroidery coverage is the way to go for a truly vibrant patch design—one you really want to POP!
