The/Studio: Introduce yourself. Tell our readers a little bit about who you are!
Barry: Descendants Clothing is a high-end urban clothing label founded, and currently based, in Christchurch, New Zealand.
What kind of fashion items does Descendants Clothing make?
Barry: We do clothing and accessories, like duffel bags.
The/Studio: What have you learned since starting Descendants Clothing?
Barry: Good things take time. There are plenty of short cuts available, but to deliver a good product, which builds a good brand, takes time.
The/Studio: What about Descendants Clothing are you most proud of?
Barry: More than anything, the message we try to convey. Which is explained in the questions below.
The/Studio: What are some of the greatest challenges you face with your business?
Barry: Because we are just starting out, we are not in a position to order large quantities of things in order to get the cheapest price. Not wanting to reduce the quality of the product, our challenge is finding companies like The/Studio who are able to do high quality work, with realistic quantities, at competitive prices.
The/Studio: Where do you see Descendants Clothing in 10 years?
Barry: We would like to have an established international online market, potentially a shared store with another few brands in Christchurch, New Zealand, and another clothing store integrated with a café and art gallery established in the heart of Melbourne, Australia.
The/Studio: What type of legacy do you want to leave?
Barry: Legacy is what the brand is all about. We would love to inspire people to think generationally, to stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before, or learn from those who have gone before, and to seek to leave something behind for the next generation to launch off. To not just be consumers, but producers of things that add value to society.
The/Studio: What is the story behind the custom product that you produced with The/Studio?
Barry: When working through a new logo for our brand we wanted something that represented the concept of our motto, ‘A Legacy We Have, A Legacy We Leave’. Thinking around the concept of a triangle and the idea of inheriting something and leaving something, we came up with the triangular D. The triangular D is now the logo on the custom patch we produced with The/Studio
The/Studio: How are you going to use the patches?
Barry: It is going to be the central feature on a new line of backpacks we are releasing.
