At The/Studio, you can create custom back patches for your motorcycle club, just like those seen in the iconic television show!
Nothing says you’re a motorcycle rider like big, burly back patches. Whether you slap ‘em on a cut-off denim vest or your fully-CE armored leather riding jacket, a back patch is the hallmark symbol of the motorcyclist. Custom back patches for jackets and vests are also a key part of almost all motorcycle club uniforms.
So it’s no surprise that the popular TV show Mayans M.C. depicts characters wearing custom back patches as part of their motorcycle gang uniform.
You can create your very own custom back patch here at The/Studio!
What is Mayans M.C.?
Mayans M.C. is a spinoff from the popular TV show Sons of Anarchy, which ran for seven seasons on FX. Like Sons of Anarchy, Mayans follows the members of an outlaw motorcycle club, the Mayans. Set in a California border town, the show follows various members of the Latino biker club throughout four seasons, starring actors JD Pardo, Clayton Cardenas, and Sarah Bolger, among others. The Mayans are loosely off of a real motorcycle club, the Mongols. The Mayans all wear back patches. Like most motorcycle clubs, these back patches are a key part of their club’s uniform.
Note: Every motorcycle back patch has a unique meaning. Learn more about the meanings behind motorcycle back patches in Sons of Anarchy in this blog post!
Mayan MC Back Patches Explained
In the show, the Mayans all wear patches emblazoned with their club name, “Mayans,” on the top rocker, situated just above an insignia inspired by Mayan tribal symbols, depicted in the colors green and khaki. The “M.C.” patch is worn beneath the insignia (M.C. stands for Motorcycle Club). The custom back patch is completed with the words “Southern Cali,” representing their home state.
Every club member also wears a unique patch representing their role in the club, worn on the top right side of their vest or jacket, in the front. These roles include Presidente (the club president), Vice Presidente (the club vice president), El Pacificador (the club’s disciplinary officer and presidential bodyguard), and El Secretario (the club secretary, responsible for the organization’s finances), among others.
The Mayans also sport other patches, such as a patch that says Los Asesinos de Dios (“Assassins of God”) underneath their club title, a smaller Mayan patch on the left top side of the front of their jacket, and a Santo Padre patch (the fictional town the club operates out of) beneath the smaller Mayan patch.
